The goal of Benefis Peace Hospice is to provide compassionate care for the terminally ill patient and his or her family in such a way as to bring comfort to their home environment. Hospice care neither hastens death nor prolongs life. The caregivers support the ill person and his or her family during the final stage of life.
Hospice care emphasizes symptom management and pain control. Patients and family alike are treated in a holistic manner and encouraged to live life fully. The patient care team consists of a physician, nurse, social worker, dietitian, respite worker, chaplain and home healthcare aides. Others caregivers include the medical director, physical therapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacist, medical equipment specialist and specially trained volunteers.
The services we provide are dedicated to do whatever is necessary to create a compassionate, comfortable and caring environment. These include regularly scheduled nursing visits, training family members in patient care, respite care, medical equipment and supplies, medication, and continuous nursing coverage in the home during an acute crisis. Additionally, we focus on the emotional aspect of well being by providing counseling, emotional and spiritual support as well as bereavement counseling.
Peace Hospice Residential Hospice Facility
What may be one of the most loving and wonderful places in the world opened in Great Falls, MT, in July 2002.
The Peace Hospice Residential Facility, at 2600 15th Ave. S., provides inpatient care in a home-like environment for patients who are experiencing a terminal illness and in need of 24-hour care. The facility provides 20 large private rooms with all the comforts of home. The patient rooms include a regular hospital bed, sofa bed, handicap accessible shower, closet, sink, microwave and refrigerator as well as a small patio area outside each room. The facility also includes a community kitchen, dining room, sun rooms at the end of each of the three wings, and several comfortable sitting rooms available for family visiting. A sunny atrium is located in the center of the building.
This special place operates on love because it was built with love. An anonymous gift totaling $7.1 million was given to Benefis Health System Foundation to build the inpatient hospice building and a nearby administrative office building and also to create a permanent endowment to ensure the program continues.
In 2012, Benefis Foundation raised more than $1.57 million through the Hospice Residential Expansion Campaign to add eight rooms to the facility, which originally was 12 rooms, along with an elevator to access badly needed storage space in the basement. Construction on the project began in September 2012, and the rooms were opened up to patients in July 2013.
We are so grateful to the many donors who made the dream of this expansion project come true. Thanks to you, dozens of additional hospice patients are able to spend their final days at the Hospice House each year, and there is no longer a need for a waiting list.
