Patient comfort, care and service are integrated into the design of each floor of the new South Tower. Here's a look at the services you'll find. We'll start with Women's and Children's Services on the Sixth and Seventh Floors, where the Tower is making a big difference for our smallest patients.
Benefis Birth Center (Seventh Floor)
The Benefis Birth Center features a home-like environment, where new moms can stay in the same room with their babies from labor through recovery. Nineteen private, spacious rooms are equipped with massage showers for mom, and a daybed for dad or other family members. The center also features two C-section suites and five Antepartum Suites for high-risk pregnancies.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Sixth Floor)
When a baby needs extra care, a dedicated elevator aids swift transport from the Birth Center to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on the Sixth Floor. The “NICU” features 17 private rooms with individual light and heat controls, shown to reduce stress on premature infants and aid development. Parents can “room in,” helping them become part of their baby's care team – another key to optimal development. Three of the NICU suites can “flex up” to accommodate multiple births, creating a more family-friendly environment for parents and a more efficient care model for staff. The NICU also includes a “family respite” area with comforts such as couches, kitchen facilities and other amenities for new parents facing a long hospital stay.
Pediatrics (Sixth Floor)
The Pediatrics Unit features 14 private rooms. Each is furnished with a daybed and glider rocker for parents and painted in cheerful, primary colors for young patients. Two of the rooms can accommodate siblings, making the hospital experience easier for kids, parents and medical staff. In the Procedure Room, kids are comforted by a bed shaped like a giant puppy. To make the hours go by a little easier, each room is equipped with an X-box and two TVs, one for the patient and one for parents.
Benefis Heart and Vascular Institute
The Benefis Heart and Vascular Institute on the Second, Fourth and Fifth Floors brings comprehensive cardiology services together in one location. Patients can now move from doctor's office visits to diagnostic tests and – if necessary – surgery, in one facility. The Fifth Floor is home to Benefis Physician Associates cardiovascular doctors' offices. The Fourth Floor houses the inpatient Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), with 33 private, in-patient rooms. The Second Floor is home to our comprehensive outpatient cardiovascular services, including two state-of-the-art catheterization labs, the Cardiac Rhythm Management Clinic, echocardiology, nuclear cardiology and stress testing.
Radiology
The Tower's First Floor is home to the state-of-the-art Radiology Unit, offering MRI and interventional radiology suites, CT-Scan rooms, radiographic rooms, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and bone density scanning in one spacious, convenient location. The new facility features two MRI machines, including a top-of-the-line 3T machine. The Unit's Benefis Breast Center offers a full range of services, from diagnostics, such as digital mammography and MRI, through biopsies and treatment. Patients will find comforts such as spacious dressing rooms and women-only hallways and waiting areas.
Amenities
Because spiritual health is a part of healing, the South Tower was designed with ample natural light and a soothing rooftop garden. The First Floor features an outdoor waterfall garden and a new chapel. Also on the First Floor is the 124-seat Cameron Auditorium dedicated to ongoing education for our staff and our community. For our patients' convenience, the Tower's First Floor is home to The Shops at Benefis, offering gifts and health supplies, as well as the Java City coffee bar serving espresso, smoothies and tasty treats.
The Tower was designed with our environment in mind. Behind the scenes, the Tower's design incorporates “green features” such as energy-saving roofing and exterior wall materials and efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems. During the winter months cold outside air – instead of mechanically chilled air – is used to cool areas requiring lower temperatures. It's all part of our commitment to our patients and our community.
