Gynecologic Oncology

The Sletten Cancer Institute has a partnership agreement with the University of Utah to cooperatively provide the services of a gynecologic cancer specialist. The specialist, Mark Dodson, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist and faculty member of the University of Utah School of Medicine. He will travel to Great Falls each month beginning in August 2007 to conduct clinics, consultations, and pre-op visits. Dr. Dodson will schedule and perform surgery on the more difficult cancer cases if needed, often working with the patient’s own local physician.

In addition to treating gynecologic cancers, Dr. Dodson is involved in research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The Sletten Cancer Institute affiliated with the Huntsman Cancer Institute in 2006 to give patients access to educational resources and new therapies that were previously unavailable in Montana.

Dr. Dodson received his medical degree from the Quillen School of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He completed his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was division chief of gynecologic oncology at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics for 11 years and an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Dodson is board certified in gynecologic oncology.

Reproductive cancers include ovarian, cervical, endometrial, vulvar, vaginal, and fallopian tube cancer. Most patients are initially evaluated by their primary care physician or general gynecologist.
