Inpatient Oncology

Infusion services at Sletten Cancer Institute are offered in the convenience and comfort of an outpatient environment. However, some patients will require the constant and compassionate care of the Benefis Healthcare impatient oncology staff. The 25-bed acute care unit, located on the 6th floor of the east campus at Benefis Healthcare, just 2 blocks from SCI, provides around the clock direct patient care as well as patient and family education, advocacy and counseling.

The goal of the oncology staff at Benefis Healthcare is to meet the needs of the patients and their families throughout the continuum of care, whether it is sharing specific information regarding treatments or assisting patients and families with self-care measures to manage the possible side effects of treatment.

All registered nurses are required to successfully complete the hospital chemotherapy course before administering chemotherapy. Certification and annual recertification chemotherapy courses are offered regularly. More than half of the registered nurses working on the Benefis Healthcare oncology unit are also certified by the national Oncology Nursing Society. Continuing education is on-going to keep pace with the constant advances in the field of oncology.
