With Kindness and Skill, Benefis DAISY Award Winner Kris Green, RN, Walks With Women on Pregnancies and Fertility Journeys

Nurse Kris Green’s understanding, kindness, and professionalism during “an extremely rough and dark road” inspired patient Jackie Barille to nominate Kris for the DAISY Award, an international recognition of extraordinary nurses.

Jackie has experienced four miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy in the last four years.

“Kris has walked with me every step of my journey,” Jackie said. “She has celebrated with me when I had a pregnancy that was going well, and my baby had a heartbeat. She was there to comfort me when that pregnancy ended suddenly and unexpectedly.”

Through intimate treatment, Kris is there “with a warm smile and a gentle heart to help me,” Jackie said. “She is selfless and works so very hard for her patients.”

Kris has offered hope, patience, and understanding, while respecting Jackie’s religious beliefs. She helps Jackie through depression and Jackie and her husband, Tony, “in our absolute darkest times,” Jackie said. “I am not sure why she does it, but I know my journey would be much different if Kris wasn’t a part of it.”

DAISY Awared

Kris has been a nurse at Benefis for 21 years, first with Labor and Delivery and part of the Women’s Health Clinic team for three years.

“I really like helping people and sharing in special moments in women’s lives. The birth of a baby is something you never forget,” she said. “The journey of pregnancy doesn’t always have a happy ending. It’s meaningful to be part of even the difficult, intimate moments for patients.”

Kris’s patients and co-workers know they can count on her, wrote Toni Hackett, manager of provider practices in the Women’s Health Clinic, and Stacy Allen, director of provider practices.

“No task is too big or too small. She is an educator to patients and peers. She is empathetic and compassionate to those in pain. She listens,” they continued. “Every day, she chooses to put patients, their safety, and their well-being first.”

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization recognizing nurses and the incredible care they provide. The foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from an autoimmune disease. More than 4,500 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing present DAISY Awards.
Benefis presents the DAISY Award quarterly.
