Daisy Winner Alicia Davis was 'Light in the Darkness' for Labor and Delivery Patient

Alicia Davis, RN, is a labor and delivery nurse and our fourth Daisy Award winner of 2025.

She was nominated by a patient who wrote the following in her Daisy Award nomination letter:

I recently had an emergency surgery in which my life was in danger. She provided me with the utmost nursing care, compassion, and true empathy as I went through one of the scariest times of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better nurse and team to help save my life! Alicia, I want you to know you have changed my life forever, and you have touched my life in ways I can hardly put into words. I can’t thank you enough. You were my light in the darkness during those moments and reminded me I was not alone. You have forever made a mark on my heart!

Manager of Obstetrics Unit Michaela Komac wrote the following about Alicia:

We are so proud of Alicia for being the Daisy Award for her exceptional dedication as a labor and delivery nurse. As a long-standing member of our team, she has played a vital role not only at the bedside but also within our department as an active participant on numerous committees. Her leadership, experience, and willingness to contribute have strengthened our unit and supported our ongoing commitment to excellence.

In Labor and Delivery, every moment matters — and Alicia consistently rises to meet those moments with calm, compassion, and unmatched clinical skill as noted in her nomination. She has an extraordinary ability to create a safe and supportive environment for the families she serves, guiding them through some of the most emotional and transformative experiences of their lives. Whether she is offering reassurance during a challenging labor, educating new parents, or advocating for patient needs, her presence brings comfort, confidence, and genuine care.

Her colleagues often speak of her as dedicated, knowledgeable, and steady in any situation. She has been and continues to be a true asset to the Labor and Delivery team, and the patients are lucky to have Alicia on their care team.

Alicia was moved to tears at her surprise award ceremony, which took place just two days prior to her wedding. Her fiancé, friends and family members, and a large group of co-workers attended the celebration.
