Donors Fuel Healthcare Dreams for Young Montanans

As a part of the 4-H program while growing up in Belt, Haley Hoerner enjoyed visiting with residents at a local group home. It helped shape her vision of the kind of nurse she’d like to be.

“I love helping people. I love interacting with them and getting to know them on a deeper level,” she said. “It’s nice taking care of the same patients day to day.”

Haley, 20, took a summer of experience working at Benefis back to Montana State University for her last three semesters of nursing school. A scholarship from Benefis Foundation helps her stay focused on her education.
She’d like donors to the scholarship program to know she will continue to work hard in her classes and clinic experiences.

“Your kindness and generosity have brought me closer to my dream of becoming a registered nurse. Thank you for believing in my potential,” she said. “Your generosity is making a significant impact on my life and the lives of those I will care for in the future.”

Donors to Benefis Foundation have helped 900+ students like Haley become nurses, doctors, physical therapists, and more with scholarships that tally more than $2.1 million since 1998.

Haley plans to stay in Montana for her career, and she’s still learning about the different kinds of specialties. For now, she’s drawn to rehabilitation nursing.

“It is amazing to see progress, helping a patient barely hanging on after strokes, car accidents, or burns heal and return to living their regular lives,” she said.
