Welcome to Fiddle Fork
Just as a melody can transport us to another moment, a taste can evoke the wholesomeness of Sunday dinner with family, the sweetness of campfire s’mores, or the crispness of an apple on a perfect fall afternoon.
As music strives for harmony, our body yearns for healthy balance – the touch of sweetness that lifts the savory, the flavor that brings us back to the food we know is good for us. And as a musician’s practice precedes performance, the habits that nourish our bodies build a foundation for every stage of life.
The Fiddle Fork meal program at the Benefis Goodnow Healthy Aging Center provides healthy culinary options. Our goal is to equip you with not only the ingredients but also the education and resources you need to maintain a nutritious, balanced, flavorful diet as you age.
What will you find at Fiddle Fork?
- Meal kits for easy cooking with recipes, nutrition information, and real scratch ingredients to add some variety to your diet.
- Low-sodium seasonings and high-quality oils and vinegars are among the dry goods offerings designed to jazz up any meal.
Fiddle Fork Q&A
Who can shop for meals and more at Fiddle Fork?
Fiddle Fork is available for anyone. You don’t need to be a patient or of a certain age. Our goal is to make eating healthy easy and sustainable for you and your loved ones.
Where is Fiddle Fork?
You’ll find Fiddle Fork in the lobby of the Goodnow Healthy Aging Center, located along 10th Avenue South, next to the Women’s and Children’s Center on Benefis' East Campus. The address is 2800 10th Ave. S. in Great Falls, Montana.
Are these meals designed for weight loss?
A healthy weight may mean weight loss or weight gain. Meals will be approachable and support the MIND diet. The MIND diet, or Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay, draws from the Mediterranean diet and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet for a research-backed plan that supports brain and heart health.
Who creates the meals?
The nutrition team at Thomas Cuisine, the food service partner at Benefis Health System, develops the meals and meal kits.
Are these meals GLP-1 friendly?
People using a GLP-1 for weight loss typically eat less, so it’s important to focus on nutrient-dense food high in fiber and protein. The MIND diet works well with those needs.
Will I need to meet with a dietitian?
You don’t need to meet with a dietitian to shop at Fiddle Fork. If you’d like to meet with a dietitian to work on ways to improve your approach to eating and individualize your plan, the center has a dietitian who is an expert in food for aging, and Benefis Health System has several dietitians in other departments, too. You can get a referral from your primary care doctor. You also can learn more about healthy habits at the Husted Teaching Kitchen.
Do I need a prescription for the meals?
No, anyone can pick up food at Fiddle Fork.
What are the serving sizes?
The meals are for one to two people, depending on their appetite/needs.
How do I buy Fiddle Fork meal kits?
