Introduction
Dr. Hessel is a clinical psychologist who performs individual psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and neuropsychological evaluations.
He was initially inspired to learn more about the human mind after watching the PBS series “Healing and the Mind” from Bill Moyers.
“How do several billion brain cells produce a Mona Lisa, a Sultans of Swing, or The Hobbit?” he wonders. “As much as we can come to know about the physical stuff of the brain, it will never be enough to explain the workings of the mind…but that won’t stop me from trying.”
Dr. Hessel enjoys working with individuals and understanding their concerns, goals, and challenges. He believes that together, they can develop approaches and strategies to overcome those challenges.
“Being invited to journey with another through his or her troubling times is very humbling,” he says. “People generally want relationships with real, approachable others. Conveying respect and trust in another individual’s experience often results in the person placing trust in me.”
Outside the office, Dr. Hessel’s interests are wide ranging. He enjoys listening to classic rock, watching movies, partaking in outdoor activities, and laughing with his wife and kids.
