Introduction

Dr. Stephanie Khouth Hang takes care of hospitalized patients and is known for attracting complex and unusual cases. She’s tenacious in wanting to understand the conditions and the reasons behind courses of treatment.

“I love the patient connection,” she said.

Dr. Hang did her residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Mich., where she was the administrative chief resident in the Internal Medicine program. She received her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica.

Dr. Hang grew up in Ontario, not far from Detroit, with parents who fled the Khmer Rouge regime. Medicine runs in the family; her siblings are a medical school student, a doctor, and an intensive care nurse.

As a college student, Dr. Hang founded and led Caring for Cambodia, which supported Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope in Phnom Penh. As a medical student, she was a volunteer when the U.S. Navy Ship Comfort, which provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid, docked in Dominica to offer free care.

“What I love about medicine is education and giving back,” she said. “I’ve always had a drive for community service, charity, and outreach.”

She is excited to explore Montana’s mountains, though she’s nervous about bears. She’s a national parks enthusiast and looking forward to living between Yellowstone and Glacier parks.
