Introduction
C. Janine Hester is a nurse practitioner with special training in neonatal care.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Janine was a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurse for several years. She wanted to offer her patients even more than she could as a bedside nurse, and she knew that being an advanced practice nurse was in her future.
As a provider, Janine takes a team approach to caring for babies. “I believe that the patient and family are integral parts of the healthcare team and need to be involved,” she explains. “I also believe that staff who are at the bedside with the patient 24/7 have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are also very important in developing care plans.”
She encourages everyone to take an active role in their care and the care of their family members. Janine says, “Always speak up for yourself. You are your best advocate.”
Janine is passionate about her job. “I absolutely love the environment I work in and feel that I am making a difference every day in the lives of my patients and their families,” she says.
Outside of the NICU, Janine enjoys reading and camping.
