Introduction
Dr. Derek Johanson is a physician who cares for patients hospitalized at Benefis. He focuses on patient education, ensuring those in his care have a clear understanding of their visit and the plan as their care journey moves forward.
“I want patients to feel involved in their care,” he says. “I want them to understand the ‘why’ behind medical decisions when I can.”
Dr. Johanson was inspired to enter the medical field by his mother, who was a nurse.
When he is away from the hospital, Dr. Johanson enjoys hiking, fishing, and wilderness expeditions. He also likes taking long-haul motorcycle trips and cooking.
