Introduction
Dr. James Harkness is a family medicine specialist who cares for hospitalized patients at Benefis.
He was inspired to become a doctor after working as a certified nursing assistant in a county nursing home. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and practiced in Delaware before coming to Montana. Dr. Harkness has also been a clinical instructor at the North Dakota School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program.
Helping people regain their health is Dr. Harkness’s top priority, and he strives to “challenge patients to take charge of their own health destiny.” He has this advice for patients: “It’s your life, live it!”
Dr. Harkness follows his own advice, and during his leisure time, he goes on kayaking, hiking and camping adventures with his family. He especially enjoys spending time with his grandkids.
