Introduction
Dr. Patrick Tang is a medical oncologist and hematologist who also specializes in internal medicine. He believes in patient-centered care.
“My role is to educate patients on their ailments to help them make informed decisions regarding their treatment,” he states. “There is often more than one right answer in medicine, and patient choice is the most important factor in formulating a plan.”
Dr. Tang was initially drawn to cancer care during his time as an undergraduate at the University of British Columbia (Dr. Tang is Canadian). That interest grew as he continued into medical school. “I found the science behind cancer drugs interesting,” he says. “Then, I found interacting with cancer patients rewarding.”
Dr. Tang is passionate about his specialty because it is a dynamic field that’s always developing. He also cherishes the unique role he plays in helping patients fight disease and improve their quality of life – a role that’s embodied in his most important advice to patients: “Do whatever makes you happy,” he encourages.
