Introduction
Dr. Shawn Nesbo is a family practice physician and hospitalist who cares for inpatients at Benefis. He strives to view each patient as an individual and treat the whole person – not just injuries or illnesses.
Dr. Nesbo’s dedication to medicine began early. Growing up on a ranch, he says tending to the land and animals gave him a caretaking approach to life. When he was just five years old, a critical event reinforced his resolve: His kindergarten teacher developed cancer.
“I told her I would become a doctor so I could save her and others like her,” Dr. Nesbo remembers. “It took 26 years of school starting in kindergarten to transform into a fully trained doctor.”
All these years later, he is still excited about his chosen vocation. “I feel great love and compassion for my fellow human beings,” he says. “When I help someone attain wellness to rejoin his or her loved ones in a positive state of health to live and love each other, I truly have made a difference.”
Outside the hospital, Dr. Nesbo enjoys riding and caring for his nine horses.
