Intensive Behavioral Therapy (IBT)

Intensive Behavioral Therapy (IBT)

IBT is an individualized and interactive one-on-one nutrition education program for patients with a BMI of 30 or greater. This program includes 6-12 months of face-to-face visits with a registered dietitian. Together you and your dietitian develop realistic strategies and goals towards sustained weight loss.

The program, conducted by a nutrition professional, includes one face to face visit each week initially. After 4 weeks of consecutive visits, the frequency of visits are reduced to every other week for 5 months. If the participant has achieved a 6.6 pound or greater weight loss, they will be eligible to continue the program for an additional 6 months.

IBT is generally covered by Medicare and Medicaid plans, but you should always ask your insurance company about coverage before your first visit.
